Jason Statham Set for Hong Kong Action Movie

Jason Statham will star in an untitled action-thriller set in Hong Kong with shooting taking place in fall 2016.

The project is a production between Jason Statham, Steven Chasman’s SJ Pictures and China-based Road Pictures. Written by Kurt Wimmer, the movie is centered around an expatriate Brit in Hong Kong who goes on the run with a high-level female Chinese agent to solve a kidnapping with global implications.

Producers are Chasman along with Gongming Cai and Julien Favre of Road Pictures. The film will shoot in China and in Europe.

Wimmer’s credits include “Point Break,” “Salt” and “Total Recall.” Chasman produced “The Bank Job” and the first three “Transporter” films.

The news was announced Thursday during the American Film Market.

“Jason and I both have been wanting to work with Kurt for a long time,” Chasman said. “He has such an incredible vision for this film that this collaboration is particularly exciting for us. The narrative Kurt creates is incredibly rich and while our story is rooted in adventure, it is also very much character-driven.”

Cai said, “This is a perfect vehicle for Jason Statham to conquer the Chinese market – he is a true global superstar who has such an authentic connection with audiences around the world. Jason is in a class by himself. There is nothing he can’t do and he proves this time and time again with every project he’s involved in. We’re excited to put this film into production, which marks the beginning of what we see as a fruitful long-term partnership with Jason Statham and Steven Chasman.”

Statham was seen most recently in Melissa McCarthy’s action comedy “Spy” and was part of Universal’s blockbuster “Furious 7.”

Road Pictures’ romantic comedy “Only You,” starring Tang Wei, was released in July in China. It’s planned a Chinese-language remake of Italian comedy “Men. Vs. Women.”
